Big Weekend Ecumenical Service

September 11, 2013

Ms Sue Searls of Ballarat, will be guest speaker at the Ecumenical Service being held during Murtoa’s Big Weekend.

The service which has been conducted each year as part of the community’s celebrations for the Big Weekend will be held in the Mechanics Hall Supper Room commencing at 11.00am on Sunday 6th October.

As 2013 is the “International Year of Water Cooperation”, Mrs Searls is an ideal speaker as she is the Ballarat Diocesan Director of Caritas Australia.

Caritas is the international aid and development organisation of the Catholic Church in Australia. The organisation aspires to deliver long-term development programs, help people regardless of ethnicity, religion or political beliefs, work with the poorest of the poor and help people help themselves.

Chairman of the Big Weekend Committee, Mr David Grigg said “The Murtoa Inter Church Council which convenes the Ecumenical Service focusses each year on a theme relating to the United Nations Thematic issue selected for particular attention in that year”.

All members of the community and visitors are welcome to attend what promises to be a thoughtful and challenging reflection. Immediately following the service the Murtoa Lions Club will host a community BBQ lunch at the same venue
