Big Weekend – Former local to perform at Railway

September 11, 2013

Former local, musician Lyn Challands (nee Blay) will perform at the Railway Hotel on the Saturday night of the Big Weekend October 6th

“Lyn Challands career as a professional musician began in 1983 when she joined her first Band (Dingus Magee). She then moved to Tasmania in 1989 and worked as resident solo entertainer at both Wrest Point and Launceston Casinos.

On returning to Melbourne in 1990 she earned respect as a solo artist, in numerous line ups, with people such as Jon English, Daryl Cotton, Tommy Emmanuel, Bruce Mathiske, and Kate Ceberano to name a few.

In 1994, Lyn, with two other well-known Melbourne musos, formed “Trio De Force”. One of Melbourne’s best loved bands, they were together for over ten years performing at pubs, parties, weddings, functions and Corporate Gigs.

She continues to work with her Trio, as well as returning to solo and duo work.

Lyn has played at too many venues around Melbourne to count – including Crown Casino, Melbourne Town Hall, Victorian Arts Centre, Melbourne Concert Hall, Myer Music Bowl, Etihad Stadium, The MCG, and many Wineries and Festivals.

She recently left the band to return to solo work, which is where she is most at home with just her voice and piano. After 25 years working full time as a musician, she remains a staple in the Melbourne Music Scene, being one of a dwindling number of performers still able to perform an entire night without technology (drum machines, sequencers etc..). Her repertoire consists of over a thousand songs from Pink Floyd to Ella Fitzgerald, James Taylor to Sinatra, U2 to Ray Charles.

Lyn will share the gig with  local band Acousticus Stomp
